Eddie Guerrero

I was born in Clifton, Tx and raised in McGregor, Tx. Which is approximately 11 miles south of President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Tx. I am a middle child, out of 11 siblings. I was raised in a family of musicians, to include my father, brothers and uncles, which have been the great influence in my career.

As a child I heard great stories about my father being a musician, who unfortunely I hardly remember (he passed away when I was 3 yrs. old). Music has always been in my blood and a great part of my life. By the age of 10, I was playing in a local Tejano band as a drummer. Upon graduating high school in McGregor, I received a scholorship in music to a junior college in Waco, Tx. ,where I received my degree in music. After several years of living in Waco and playing with other local bands, I felt the need to move to San Antonio, Tx. “The Tejano Capitol of the World”. Where I resumed playing with multiple bands, being a saxaphone and piano player. While living in San Antonio, I had the opportunity to be a member of Eddie Gonzalez and Grupo Vida, which we went on to become one of the top entertaining bands in the Tejano industry. Upon the break up of the band, I decided to persue my own career in the Tejano industry.

Up to date, I have become a songwriter, producer and the lead singer of my own band. I have had the opportunity of recording with a couple of the greatest record labels in Texas, to include Freddie Records and presently under contract with Joey Records. As of today, San Antonio is still my home and will be my home for the rest of my life. Tejano music has proven to be one of the greatest pleasures in my life and I will always strive to be the best, for my fans.

Furious 5

Scorpio Furious 5

FURIOUS 5

This crew is full of firsts. These Bronx cats were among the first to mix harmonizing with Emceeing. They were the first to put dance moves like the Motown acts in their stage show . Flash was the first to put scratching and mixing onto record in ‘81 with “Adventures on the wheels of steel”. They were the first to put social commentary in Hip Hop with Melle Mel’s last verse in “Superrappin” (12 min. Version) , and again with the Message in ‘82. The Furious 5 are Mele Mel , Kid Creole ( Mels Brother) , Keith Cowboy(R.I.P) , Mr Ness ( aka Scorpio) and Rahiem. Originally it was just Flash as the dj,then Cowboy joined and acted as a crowd motivator ; he was a master at getting the crowd amped by using call and response tactics ( say ho…..all the ladies say owwww….). The crew was called Flash & The Three Emcees (Mele Mel , Creole & Cowboy).

By ‘ 78 Mr.Ness joined, and it was Flash & The Furious 4 ,then Rahiem left the Funky 4 and joined making it the legendary Furious 5 . Flash was also the first Dj to be endorsed by an electronics company – Gemini produced the ” Flashformer ” Scratching mixer in 1988 . In ‘ 79 the crew signed with Enjoy records and dropped the classic “Superrappin” . Actually they had a song earlier in ‘ 79 called ” We Rap more Mellow” on Brass records , when they used the name The Younger Generation. Although both classics ; neither got the airplay and attention of Sugarhill Gangs “Rappers Delight” which dropped the same year. In 1980 they signed with Sugarhill records and dropped “Freedom” , which is one of their best works ; and used the same break as Crash Crews “Hi Powered Rap”. ‘ 81 gave us “Birthday Party” and the classic “Adventures on the wheels “. This record was extremely important because it was the first record to have scratching and cutting on it….it gave people outside of New York their first taste of scratching , and changed the way Hip hop records were made !! ‘82 gave us ” Its Nasty ” which lifted Tom Tom Clubs “Genius Of Love” – Instant classic .

1982 was a critical year for the group. Duke Bootee…(a member of the house band that played on most Sugarhill records releases) collaborated with Mele Mel on the crews smash ” The Message ” . This gritty tale of the inner city in the Reagan era was the predecessor to todays so called reality rap. Mele Mel who was the front man for the group used an old verse from ” Super Rappin ” and along with Duke added 4 or 5 new verses. No other Furious 5 members performed on the song ( except the arrest skit at the end). This caused much understood division in the group , and eventually led to a break up. Before the breakup came the Message Lp, Message 2 & New York,New York ( with Duke again ) and ” White Lines “.

In 1983 Flash took Creole and Raheim with him to Elektra records , added a few more Mcs and a dancer and named the group Grandmaster Flash . They had success with ” Girls Love the Way He Spins ” ,” Larry’s Dance Theme ” , “Style ” and ” You Know What Time It is ” . Mele Mel took Scorpio and Cowboy , stayed on Sugarhill records , and added some outlandish dancers etc . They scored big with ” Step Off ” , ” Beat St. Breakdown ” , “Pump Me Up ” and ” Internationally Known ” . Mels click was the better faction , but neither rekindled the magic of the original group. In 1989 the original group recorded the single ” Gold ” and dropped the lp ” On the strength” .

Neither got the airplay or attention it deserved . The original line up minus Flash got together and recorded the ” Piano” lp in ‘ 89 also . In 1990 Cowboy died from complications of the AIDS virus. Mele Mel continues to make music with Quincy Jones , and dropped ” Right Now ” in ‘ 97 with Scorpio.Mel also dropped an Lp in 2001 with West coast rapper Rondo. Mele Mel performed on JayQuan’s single”5 Mics” with Grandmaster Caz in 2004. Flash was music director for the Chris Rock show . Flash also dropped 2 mix cds in 2001 . Rahiem had a song on the Juice soundtrack in the early 90s , and is now working on material with his son . In 2004 GMF & F5 became the first ever rap act to be elected for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame…..GMF & F5 the best to ever do it….. no doubt.

Mariachi Damas de Jalisco

Damas de Jalisco is San Antonio’s premiere all-female mariachi ensemble. These young ladies are San Antonio’s newest and hottest cultural sensation! Founded May 21, 2005, and hand picked by director Sonia Marin, Damas is an eleven piece group comprised of local beauties ranging from 19 to 28 years old. These young musicians have been chosen for their specific talents, instrumentally and vocally as the best and brightest that San Antonio has to offer!

All of the members of Damas de Jalisco have had previous successes in the genre of mariachi, with their varied performance experiences. Damas brings to the table some of the hottest vocal talent in San Antonio, with one of the core vocalists, Vanessa del Fierro having recently been a finalist on Voces de America-the latino version of American Idol! Some of these young ladies have shared the stage with musical icons such as Trio Los Panchos, Jose Feliciano, Mariachi Mujer 2000, Mariachi America, Sol de México, and the world renowned Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán.

Although these talented young ladies love their music and entertaining, they are not to be taken lightly. The repertoire of Damas is extremely unlike that of other ensembles. Together, Damas de Jalisco chooses music that carries meaning and relevance. These ladies love to interpret music they know will attract all of their audiences-from the young to the young at heart! The jazzy vocals mixed with the upbeat personality of each of the Damas is what excites audiences when first experiencing a group performance. These are just some of the reasons that Damas de Jalisco is anything but a typical mariachi!

A wide array of performance experience in such a short time span, is also what makes Damas de Jalisco an elite group. Using their art ot attract attention and awareness, Damas has supported different organizations such as ¡Feliz!, an awareness and fundraising organization for birth defects, based out of Houston, Texas. Seeking community involvement to promote humanitarian causes as well as their culture, last year Damas participated in a parade based out of the cultural heart of San Antonio at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center downtown. With the extensive military community in the Alamo city, Damas has also held the honor of performing for local military celebrations. The group has been featured on Channel 41 Univision in a news special, recommending them as the top mariachi to hire for Mother’s Day serenades. To add to all of this, the group has been hired by such entertainment companies as Stertio entertainment, and 3 local venues, at which the group performs regularly. The group offices out of the Network for Young Artists (NYA), a non-profit community youth group that promotes the arts for local talent in the San Antonio area.

When these ladies are not rehearsing at NYA or performing, they are either studying at local colleges and universities, working as professionals in their field of expertise or taking care of their families. Maintaining all of these important goals and interests intact and being awesome musicians really sets these young women apart from the rest! This drive for educational and career success carries over into their efforts as an ensemble. All you have to do is see these ladies perform together and you can see their personalities blend together to make up a unique and exquisite entertainment experience!

Son by Four

Son by Four

Son by Four

In 1996, a group was formed by brothers Carlos and Jorge Montes and their cousin Pedro Quiles. When Ángel López came into the group, Son by Four was formed.

In their second album, the group had International success when their song “A Puro Dolor ” became a # 1 hit in Latin music worldwide. At the same time their English version was a hit throughout Europe, especially in Spain. It was played on radio stations throughout the world including faraway places such as Thailand, Singapore and Japan. But with worldwide success and fame came problems.

All our dreams had become a reality but in our time of unbelievable success and awards came envy and jealousy; which ended it all in a dispute over the rights to the name Son by Four and Angel Lopez left the group.

The world could not fill the emptiness in our lives.

Meanwhile we fought in vain to recover what we had lost. Little by little we realized not to fight against the human forces that had made this happen. We realized that The King of the Universe had glanced upon on three soles, unexperienced and unworthy. He had a plan much more important for us.

Jesús made his triumphant entrances into our lives and put and end to our vanity, our desire for fame and recognition throughout the world. But, most importantly he brought resurrection to our lives.

He promised that through Baptism that one day we would be part of the village of God and all that belongs to Christ, since the beginning, would be reclaimed.

Now, Son by Four belongs solely to Christ and his church and from the parish in Ciales, Puerto Rico we are sending the world one testimony, without armor, but anchored on that one Rock that continues to topple giants: Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Through Baptism, those who live for our Father will receive the grace and the peace of Jesus Christ and the Spirit that sanctifies us forever, Amen

With Love,
Son by Four
